Trả Thu man mác nắng hiền gió mơn
Trả Xuân tươi thắm bao lần
Trả Ðông lạnh lẽo âm thầm tối tăm
Trả cha, trả mẹ võng nằm
Trả cho chú Cuội trăng rằm đầu non
Trả trăm năm đá cũng mòn
Trả hương cho gió, hương còn thoảng đây
Trả trăng, trả gió cho mây
Trả Thơ cho bút - Trả cây cho rừng
Chỉ còn giữ cái Vô thường!

Keeping The Uncertainty

I give back to Buddha my eight-life of metempsychosis,
For a thousand years later, nobody would know what was my karma.
Presently, since I have enough anger and love,
I don’t have to expect more times for the next life.
My darling, I give you back your love
which always encircled me as a swarm of bees,
I am madly in love with you and I miss you all the time when you are not with me,
However, it is ephemeral because somehow there is still a distance between you and me,
though we love each other very much
and we are so close together almost all the time.
I give back to the people their lies and wrong doing.
They are mad, evil, blind, and disturbing.
I give back to the pagoda its smoking temple,
Then I commonly give back to the people
all their seven sentiments.
Do you hear the cry of the water-rail, a summer bird?
I deliver it back to the summer!
For the romantic and nice autumn,
I give it back its soft breeze and sunshine,
I give back to the gorgeous spring the equal times it brought the beauty to me,
As for winter, I give it back its cold, quiet, and dark sky.
I don’t forget to give back to my father and mother
their hammocks
on which they lay down sometimes.
I also give back to “Cuoi” his bright full moon
suspended above the high, blue mountain.
For hundred years, the stone will be worn out,
but the fragrance of the flowers is still in the air.
About the moon and the wind, I submit them back to the clouds.
And I give my poems back to
my intelligent and industrious pen
as well as all the trees to the jungles.
I just keep one thing forever: the uncertainty!
