"Ta muốn cưỡi cơn gió mạnh, đạp làn sóng dữ, chém cá tràng-kình ở Biển Đông, quét sạch bờ-cõi để cứu dân ra khỏi nơi đắm-đuối chứ không thèm bắt chước người đời cúi đầu, cong lưng làm tỳ-thiếp cho người ta"

** Triệu Thị Trinh **

       Gọi Dậy Ngàn Năm

                             1

Rồi gã mù ôm mùa đông thức dậy.

Tiếng độc-huyền vang động tới ngàn năm.

Ngày Quê-Hương có gió xuân thổi lại.

Đêm linh-thiêng thơm ngát với hương trầm.

                                  2

Đàn reo vui theo tiếng cười Uy-Viễn.

Thuở tiêu-dao ngất-ngưởng cưỡi lưng bò.

Đây núi sông,Tướng-Quân đùa với chén.

Bụi-bặm đời trôi-nổi dưới chân co.

                                    3

Đàn giục-giã, trống đồng khi thúc trận.

Trên lưng voi thân gái trả thù nhà.

Muôn tiếng thét, quân reo tràn uất-hận.

Một cõi bờ dựng lại mặc phong-ba.

                                    4

Đàn hào-hùng, điện Diên-Hồng sấm động.

Những cha già tóc trắng sát bên nhau.

Lời quyết-chiến tung bay theo gió lộng.

Người lên đường hăm-hở bước chân mau.

                                    5

Đàn hiền-hòa, Đế-Vương khi mở nghiệp.

Núi La-Sơn thành-khẩn những ba lần.

Đây Quân-Đức, Dân-Tâm và Học-Pháp.

Thanh-âm này chĩu nặng ý Giang-San.

                                    6

Đàn xót-thương, tiếng bom vang Sa-Điện.

Một ngày buồn, bão-tố ngập Quê-Hương.

Tráng-Sĩ đi một lân không để thẹn.

Rồi người người đứng dậy quyết noi gương.

                                    7

Ta mắt mù, vui với đời cô-quạnh.

Mang yêu-thương trút xuống một dây đàn.

Mơ làm đuốc soi đường đêm giá lạnh.

Trong rừng đào ôm sử đợi xuân sang.

Awakening from Millennia

1

The blind bard from winter awakes.

The sound of his monochord resonates from millennia:

The day when Motherland enjoyed the breezes of Spring

And the sacred night was embalmed with frankincense.

2

The monochord is cheering along with Uy Vien’s laughter;

In a leisurely manner, he wanders here and there riding a cow,

Frolicking with a flask of rice wine in peaceful Fatherland,

Scorning all ephemeral matters that pass under his feet.

3

Its sound is hurrying, when the brass drums press for the battle.

On elephants’ backs the heroines seek revenge:

Through thousands of war cries, soldiers’ outrage clamors

For the rebuilding of the nation in spite of adversities.

4

The sound is becoming daring, when the Dien Hong Palace thunders,

By the gray-haired patriarchs shoulder to shoulder,

With the roar of the war cries ballooning the immense winds

That push people to eagerly accelerate the speed of their steps.

5

The sound is currently gentle: Forefather of our kingdom, Our Emperor

Has thrice sought advice from the Sage of Mount La-Son.

Here you are, “Virtues of a King, Hearts of the People, Practical Education.”

This tune is laden with multiple meanings of nationalism.

6

The sound now turns elegiac, when the bomb detonates in Sa Mian:

A sad day when the storms ravage Fatherland;

The hero once passed didn’t leave shame behind.

And people one after another rise up following his footsteps.

7

My eyes are blind, but I enjoy my loneliness:

I’m pouring love down onto the monochord,

Living the dream of a torch that lightens up the freezing cold night.

Embracing history, waiting for Spring to come again, in the cherry blossom tree garden.
